A question we often get asked is How do you get Color in the fractures??? Mystery revealed:
Lars' bowls fresh out of the 1st firing (bisque firing).
They look pretty good as they are but they aren't finished yet.
Lars applies a colored slip or engobe to the surface with a paint brush and water so that the engobe flows into all the tiny fractures.
Finally, the surface is wiped clean with a sponge and if needed a light sanding. The piece is then primed for glazing (waxed, etc), glaze is applied and the piece is fired for a second time.
